Bougainvillea is an extremely hardy, sun-loving flowering vine widely grown across Indian balconies, boundary walls, and terraces. Renowned for its vibrant, papery bracts in shades of magenta, pink, orange, and white, it thrives effortlessly in warm tropical climates. Beginners often notice sudden leaf drop, pale foliage, or a complete absence of colorful flowers. In many Indian homes, a lack of blooming is caused by over-loving the plant with excessive water or high-nitrogen fertilizers, which encourages lush green leaves rather than colorful bracts. For optimal health, Bougainvilleas demand harsh direct sunlight and dry cycles between waterings. During the Indian monsoons, high humidity can attract leaf-chewing caterpillars or induce root rot if soil drainage is inadequate.
